About the event
This History Happy Hour will explore life, memory, and resilience in Yancey County through poetry and storytelling. Drawing on her upbringing in the Bandana community, our speaker will share poems that reflect on growing up in these mountains—family, place, and the everyday moments that shape Appalachian life. She will also discuss an anthology she edited in response to Hurricane Helene, examining how communities remember, endure, and make meaning in the wake of disaster.
