Volunteer

Volunteer

Thank you for your interest in volunteering with the Center for Pioneer Life!  Volunteers are essential to making the Center available to visitors throughout the year.  We love and appreciate all our volunteers.  There are many ways to be involved.  Once you fill out the Volunteer Application, you will attend one of our monthly volunteer training sessions before beginning your volunteer work.

Some volunteer positions might require an ongoing commitment, while others are one-time or on-call.  We work to place applicants of various ages, backgrounds, and interests in appropriate positions.  Volunteering with us can be one way for students to fulfill a community service requirement for school.  We also encourage families or other groups to apply.

TYPES OF VOLUNTEER WORK

Visitor Engagement

These volunteers greet visitors, help them find their way around, gather feedback on visitors’ experiences, provide costumed interpretation, and more.  They should feel comfortable with public speaking and excited to engage meaningfully with the public.  This type of volunteering typically takes place during our tours on Saturday afternoons, as well as during school field trips or other events.

Special Events

The Center holds several special events throughout the year, such as our Fall Festival.  Volunteers are needed for these events, to do things like greeting and orienting visitors, and event setup and take-down.  Special event volunteers should be excited to work as part of a team that is customer-service oriented.

Behind-the-Scenes

Volunteers are often needed to assist staff with projects such as developing program materials, maintaining our historic collections, marketing, building maintenance, and gardening.
