Spinning and Grinning with Denise Gibbs
Join us for History Happy Hour on April 7 as we explore the traditional skill of wool spinning with Denise Gibbs. Denise raises sheep and transforms their fleece into beautiful hand-spun yarn, carrying on a craft that has long been part of Appalachian home life.
During this program, Denise will walk through the full process of turning raw wool into yarn—from skirting a freshly shorn fleece and washing it, to spinning fiber into usable thread. Along the way, she’ll share stories from her own experience raising sheep and working with wool, offering insight into the relationship between animals, materials, and everyday craftsmanship.
